About Raoul and Acadia Massage Health Center in Seattle, WA

Raoul graduated in 1979, having studied and trained in general aspects of Swedish massage, sports massage, deep tissue massage, medical massage, shiatsu and a host of other treatment methods. He is always pursuing continuing education to keep updated on the latest massage styles and techniques.
Before settling on becoming a licensed massage practitioner, Raoul studied at Maricopa Medical Tech College from 1974-1976, in preparation for entrance to medical school. He also worked and volunteered with various groups to further pursue that path.
Raoul’s decision to follow a medical/healing/massage therapy journey was influenced by two of his family members, his grandmothers. They tutored him in his childhood, teaching him to select, harvest and help grow indigenous herbs for teas, poultices and salves for any number of conditions. The grandmothers had 15 children amongst them that contributed to their experience. Both became known as local healers who were constantly being called upon by people for consults for various health concerns.
At the age of 10, Raoul contracted a serious kidney infection. It resulted in him being bedridden in the hospital for 2 months, with an additional year for healing at home. While healing he had a tutor come to teach him, as he was unable to attend school. He was able to return to school after a year in recovery. While recovering, his grandmothers communicated their knowledge, having seen his strong interest, passion and sensitivity towards the healing of illness.
During his time at the Maricopa Medical Technical College, Raoul became interested in a holistic massage approach with the medication and surgery options used to address and diagnose (disease) illness. At that point , he decided to devote his practice to seeking alternative health training and treatment. In 1978, Raoul joined Acadia Health Center and in June of 1984; re-established to Acadia Massage Health Center. He works to help educate the importance of Health as a way of Life, empowering ourselves to take responsibility for our mental, nutritional, and spiritual health, never forgetting the importance of a good exercise plan throughout one’s life.
